Family Courts

As per the reports received by the Government, 212 Family Courts are operational in the country. Giving this information in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Shri Salman Khurshid, Minister of Law & Justice, said that under Section 3(1)(a) of the Family Courts Act, 1984, it is mandatory for the State Governments to set up a Family Court for every area in the State comprising a city or a town whose population exceeds one million. The Family Courts are set-up by the State Government in consultation with the respective High Court.
