BANGALORE: The new Chief Justice (CJ) of the Karnataka High Court JS Khehar is well known for his tough decisions. When he was the judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, he had imposed Rs 20 lakh fine on a petitioner for filing a frivolous petition.

Justice Khehar was born on August 28, 1952. After graduating in science from Government College, Chandigarh in 1974, he received the law degree from Punjab University in 1977 and completed his LLM in 1979. He was enrolled as an advocate in 1979 and appointed Additional Advocate General, Punjab in January 1992. He was elevated to the High Court of Punjab in 1999 and appointed Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court on November 29, 2009. When he was appointed CJ of the Uttarakhand High Court, majority of the lawyers had welcomed the SC’s decision.
