The In-camera trial of the Kathua rape and Murder case, before the District and Session Judge Tejwinder Singh, ended on 3rd June and the Pathankot Special Court is likely to deliver the verdict today on 10th of June, 2019 in the case.

As per the 15 page charge-sheet filed, the eight year old girl was kidnapped and taken to a village temple in Kathua district on January 10 last year. She was reportedly raped while being kept under sedation. She was then beaten to death. Charges of rape and murder were framed under Sections 120-B of Ranbir Penal Code which deals with the criminal conspiracy; under Section 302 of Ranbir Penal Code which deals with murder ; Section 376- D of Ranbir Penal Code which deals with gang rape and under section - 328 of RPC that deals with destruction of evidence and causing hurt by poisoning.

The authority of investigation was given to the Crime Branch, following which a police sub-inspector Anand Dutta and a head constable Tilak Raj were arrested for destroying evidence and were charged under Section -161 of Ranbir Penal Code which deals with the public servants taking illegal gratification. The case is considered to be a strategic move to remove the minority nomadic community from the area.
