The law ministry has embarked upon a comprehensive consultation on electoral reforms, and expects that unlike in the past political consensus will emerge on contentious issues like whether chargesheeted people be allowed to contest elections.
The ministry's core committee — headed by additional solicitor general Vivek K Tankha — will hold seven regional consultations, beginning in Bhopal on Sunday and culminating in a national consultation in New Delhi.
