More than 5,000 lawyers took out a procession here protesting against the February 19 "police action on advocates" in the Madras High Court premises, even as two top police officials have been suspended in connection with the incident. They also shouted slogans against the state government for "not taking action" against the police officials concerned. The lawyers were demanding action against DGP and Chennai city Police Commissioner. "They were the persons who were at the helm of affairs and under whose direct supervision the operation was carried out," the bench said. The bench also came down heavily on lawyers for their state-wide boycott of courts following February 19 violence in which several advocates and police personnel besides a judge were injured. The Supreme Court-appointed Srikrishna Committee to probe the clash had indicted both lawyers and police.
