Bench of Justice Jayant Nath and Justice Najmi Waziri heard a PIL seeking an independent CBI probe into the alleged police assault on an auto-rickshaw driver Sarabjeet Singh and his minor son.

On Sunday evening, several video clips went viral on social media. In one among the clips, the autorickshaw driver was seen running after the policemen with a sword. In another video, the policemen were seen beating the driver and his son.

After watching the videos of the assault, the Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Delhi Police and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi to take their respective stand on the PIL. Bench has also asked the media not to reveal the name of the minor victim of the police assault.

Commenting upon the police brutality, the court said that an assault of a 15 year old cannot be justified. It is clear evidence of police’s brutality. The court further stated that these kinds of actions of the uniformed force will scare the citizens.

The bench has further listed the matter to be heard on July 2.
