3/19/2009 The Haryana Government submitted before the Supreme Court that the construction raised in Aravalli Hill area in Faridabad district, having requisite permission from the authorities concerned, should not be demolished. A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices Arijit Pasayat and S H Kapadia had directed the parties to maintain status quo in the area on February 13 this year. The apex court appointed centrally-empowered committee in its report has, however, submitted that large scale illegal constructions have been raised by land mafia and builders in the forest area, causing huge damage to the environment and all these buildings should be demolished. The Supreme Court has been monitoring the depletion of the forest cover in the country by timber mafia, in connivance with the forest officials since 1996, to keep surveillance on such illegal activities
