SC directs UP govt over prosecution of officials in PDS Scam
The Supreme Court has granted six months time to Mayawati government to decide the issue of granting sanction for the prosecution of officials involved in the scam in Public Distribution System.
A bench comprising Justice R V Raveendaran and AK Patnaik on Monday turned down the plea of Uttar Pradesh government for stay of Allahabad High Court order in the matter.
The High Court in December last year directed Mayawati government to decide on the sanction of prosecution within three months.
Misuse of food grants meant for PDS to the tune of thirty five thousand crore rupees has been alleged.
The concerned state government officials have been accused of diverting the food grains meant for BPL families to the black market for personal gains.
