SC Issues Contempt Notices For Not Probing Witness Murder In Nithari Case 1/15/2009 The Supreme Court issued contempt notices to former CBI Director Vijay Shankar and seven other officials, including officers of West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh Police, for flouting Court orders to investigate the death of a witness in Nithari serial killings case. After hearing a petition filed by Bandana Sarkar, whose husband, a key witness in the case was found murdered in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, Chamber judge Justice Tarun Chatterjee issued notices to the former CBI Director and other contemnors S J M Gilani, SP, CBI, Ajay Singh, Inspector, CBI, Navin Arora, IPS officer of UP Police, Dinesh Yadav, DSP, PTC Sitapur, Prakash Pandey, SP Dolibagh, Santo Mitra, DSP Murshidabad and Rahul Srivastav, SP, WB. The petitioner alleged that the then CBI Director and the other officers did not register a case of murder against the killers of her husband Jatin Sarkar who was under pressure from the contemnors not to depose against the accused in the case, Maninder Singh Pandher and Surinder Koli. The petitioner alleged that she was also threatened by the contemnors who did not carry out any investigations in the murder of her husband despite the directions of the Supreme Court. Bandana, whose daughter was a victim in the Nithari killings, has also contended that her husband was got eliminated at the instance of the contemnors and they are guilty of wilful and deliberate disobedience of the orders of this Court and therefore, liable to be prosecuted and punished for contempt of Court.
