SC issues notice to Centre on NHRC head appointment

The Supreme Court issued notice to the Union Government on a petition seeking direction to it to fill up the post of the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).



A bench comprising Justices S H Kapadia and Aftab Alam issued the notice after hearing counsel for the petitioner who contended that the post is lying vacant since the retirement of Justice Rajendra Babu, on completion of his five-year term last year. 



A retired Chief Justice of India is appointed as the head of the NHRC.
