SC To State Govts & UTs: Check Ragging 11 Feb 2009, 1133 hrs IST, PTI Text: NEW DELHI: In a bid to curb ragging, the Supreme Court on Wednesday asked state governments and union territories to act in terms of guidelines recommended by a committee set up by it to suggest measures to end the menace in educational institutions across the country. Accepting the report of the committee headed by former CBI Director R K Raghavan, a bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat said the guidelines to curb ragging would be binding on all educational institutions. Further, it said that all educational institutions in their prospectus at the time of admission should carry the instructions with regard to ragging. The court said the institutes should take urgent action immediately on receiving information about ragging and police shall be informed forthwith. The court has posted the matter for further hearing in March.
