Swamy to challenge Nalini''s plea for early release Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today said he would soon challenge in Madras High Court the plea made by Nalini Murugan, convicted for life in the case relating to the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, for early release. Nalini had moved the Madras High Court in April after her plea for release on the grounds of good conduct in the prison was rejected by an advisory board last year. The board's decision was also accepted by the Tamil Nadu Government. Nalini was first sentenced to death along with her husband, another key accused in the case, Murugan and two others. Nalini's capital punishment was later commuted to life imprisonment following an appeal on humanitarian grounds by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, after she delivered a baby girl in the prison. The 37 year-old Nalini was in the news recently, following the visit of late Rajiv Gandhi's daughter Priyanka and her meeting with the former in the prison. Dr Swami alleged that Nalini was a willing party to the crime. UNI
