1. Couple in their 80s sent to jail for sexual abuse
• An elderly couple, in their 80s, has been sentenced to imprisonment for sexually abusing a 4 year old child.
• The 4 year old was the neighbor of the octogenarian couple.
• The Court has also order the accused to pay compensation to the victim.
2. Retirement of Justice Indu Malhotra
• Justice Indu Malhotra, known for giving well-reasoned judgments, retired on March 13th 2021.
• She is the second lady in the Supreme Court’s history to be designated as a Senior Advocate. The other one had been Justice Leila Seth.
• She gave many ground breaking judgments, one of them being the Navtej Singh Johar Judgment, in which she wrote that “history owed LGBT Indians and their families an apology for their treatment”.
3. Non-acceptance of inter-caste marriage is a social problem: Punjab & Haryana HC
• In the case of Lovepreet Kaur v. State of Punjab, the Punjab & Haryana High Court has observed that there are a large number of cases filed by inter-caste couples seeking protection before it.
• The Court held that the non-acceptance of the inter-caste marriage is a social problem and need to be dealt with in various levels.

4. Bombay HC on the 31 year old uncontested petition filed before the Court
• The Bombay High Court was perplexed when a 31 year old uncontested petition filed in 1990 came before it for a hearing.
• The name of the case was Mahomed Chinoy v. Rasubai Chinoy.
• “The first oddity of the matter, and it is truly inexplicable, apart from being a tragic and terrible commentary on our justice delivery system, is that, though uncontested, the matter has been pending in this Court for the last thirty one years,” Justice Gautam Patel opined.
5. NCPCR has asked Netflix to stop the streaming of ‘Bombay Begums’
• NCPCR, the apex child rights body, has asked Netflix to stop the streaming of ‘Bombay Begums’.
• NCPCR has asked this on grounds of the inappropriate portrayal of children in it and the effect it would have on young minds.
