High School Teacher Says It's Her Constitutional Right To Sleep With Students
A 47 year old high school teacher in Alabama, Carrie Witt, has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for having sexual intercourse with a student. She will be spending 1.5 years in jail, 18 months on community service and the rest of her sentence on probation. She will also be registered as a sex offender. She has claimed that she had a constitutional right to sleep with her students and her relationships with her students were consensual. While charges against her were initially dismissed, the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals reversed the ruling.

SC Says The Issue Of Fundamental Rights and Legislative Privileges Pending Since 2005 Needs To Be Given More Importance
Regarding the judgement delivered on the Facebook V. Delhi Assembly case, the Supreme Court observed that the issue of interplay between Fundamental Rights and Legislative Privileges pending since 2005 before the 7 judge Bench needs to be given more importance. The Bench headed by Justice Sajay K Kaul noted that the issue of privileges relating to free speech, silence and privacy with regards to Part III of the Constitution are still yet to be referred and resolved.

SC Refuses To Hear Plea Against Thermal Plants In Neighbouring States
A petition had been filed by the Delhi Government which sought to issue directions to thermal power plants based in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to cease operations till the Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) system was installed. The said petition was dismissed by the Supreme Court. The Bench consisting of Justice Navin Sinha and Justice Subhash Reddy gave the decision that the Delhi Government was free to intervene in the MC Mehta case related to air pollution in the National Capital Region.

Delhi Court Remands Journalist Rajeev Sharma To ED Custody
Freelance journalist, Rajeev Sharma has been remanded to the Enforcement Directorate’s custody till July 14 by a Delhi Court. The decision was given by Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana. Rajeev Sharma had been arrested for allegedly giving confidential information to Chinese officials in exchange for remuneration. The case is Directorate of Enforcement V. Rajeev Sharma.

SC Condemns High Courts' Practice To Summon Public Officers Unnecessarily
The Supreme Court has reinstated that public officers are not to be called to court unnecessarily. Such an act is not appreciated and will be liable to condemnation. The High Courts’ practice to summon public officers immediately to directly or indirectly exert pressure has been disapproved of by the Bench consisting of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Hemant Gupta. The case is of State of Uttar Pradesh V. Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma.
