Tussle for Bar Council top post turns ugly The tussle for the chairman's post of the Tamil Nadu-Pondicherry Bar Council turned ugly today with one of the members appealing to Madras High Court Registrar General not to permit Council Chairman R K Chandramohan to take part in the function to greet new Chief Justice A K Ganguly at a function. Mr D Selvam presented a memorandum to High Court Registrar General (RG) R Mala requesting her not to permit Mr Chandramohan to take part in the official function organised to greet Chief Justice A K Ganguly at the court premises on June 9. Under an understanding in 2005, Mr Chandramohan and Mr Selvam would 'share' the office of the Council Chairman for two-and-half years each. After Mr Chandramohan's "tenure" ended on May 31 this year, Mr Selvam requested him to step down, but he refused. All eyes were now on Advocate General G Masilamani, the ex-officio Chairman of the Bar Council, who was expected to sort out the issue. Advocates belong to Selvam Group gathered in front of the Bar Council building and raised slogans against Mr Chandramohan asking him to honour the agreement and quit his post. In the meantime, Mr Chandramohan had convened a council meeting on June 14 where he was expected to prove his majority, sources said. UNI
