The Facebook-owned company WhatsApp will take legal action from December 7  against the individuals and companies who will send bulk messages in violation of its terms and conditions.

The company said that this app is meant to work as a private messaging platform and for companies to connect and communicate with the customers via its committed Business app, and it will not tolerate and authorize it to be misused through spam messages. This step has been taken in pursuance with the commitment to preserve and protect the private nature of their platform and devotion to keep their users safe from abuse.

The messaging app currently serves more than 1.5 billion active users worldwide and specifically in India, there are more than 200 million users of WhatsApp. The company also identifies the account that misuse it and bans them from their service. The messaging app globally bans two million accounts per month.

A White Paper was released in February, in which WhatsApp lighted upon their method of abuse detection. This detection process operates at three stages of an account's life cycle -

  • at the time of registration,
  • during messaging,
  • and in response to negative feedback received in the form of user reports and blocks.

So, this step is taken by WhatsApp to fight spamming as it is a major issue for them and especially in India where so many mob attacks take place on the basis of fake reports spread via app.
