Union Minister of Law M Veerappa Moily today said the next term of five years of the UPA Government led by Dr Manmohan Singh will be an era of judicial reforms including emphasis on speedy disposal of pending cases.

Talking to newspersons, Mr Moily said steps would be taken to appoint judges to ensure speedy disposal of cases in consultation with judiciary for heralding reforms in the system.

Providing scientific tools to manage investigations, improving governance in judiciary and eradication of corruption topped the priority of the government, he said, adding to implement these initiatives the government would have constant dialouge with the judiciary.

Stating that priorities of the UPA Government had already been spotted and the idea was to perform, he said this was the ‘message given to us as the people who elected us for the second term have high expectation.’ ‘People want stability. The Congress believes in inclusive growth and equal protection to everybody. We don't believe in fragmented society’ Mr Moily said taking a dig at the BJP.

On the Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s reported remarks that the Centre had been meeting out step-motherly treatment to the state, he said ‘it is baseless.’ Mr Yeddyurappa called on him at his residence to greet him and seek his cooperation for the state’s development.

The Centre had released ‘unprecedented’ quantum of grants, he said.

‘Karnataka will surely get its legitimate share from the Centre.

Both Centre and State should work together’, he added.
