n a major relief to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the Supreme Court today declined to stay the installations of her statues in Noida. A bench of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice P. Sathasivam said the court cannot intervene in such matters until and unless a case of misappropriation of fund is made since the process has been approved by the state cabinet. "If a democratically elected government decides to do something without misappropriating public money, there is little courts can do," the apex court said, refusing to interfere in the on-going work for installation of the statues. The apex court had issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh Government and Mayawati separately on June 29 on the matter. Earlier, the Supreme Court had issued a showcause notice to the UP government for allegedly using huge public money to install the statues of CM Mayawati at various places. The showcause notice was issued on a PIL petition filed by Ravi Kant, a Supreme Court Advocate.
