How to proceed ?

Dear All, one of My friend got married in March 2014, the marriage was performed as per Hindu rituals , now , they have several quarrels since last few days , and now they have decided to separate from each other. there marriage is not yet register, members from both families tried thrice to bring them together but each time they end up with fresh quarrel. according to my understanding even if they have not done the registration they have to take divorce through following proper court procedure . Please throw some light on such divorce procedure? How much time it will take to take such divorce? please let me know whether out of court settlement is possible and valid in such case?
