My Father in law built a house in Belgaum in karnataka after retirement and the owner is my MIL. Last year she passed away suddenly in Mumbai, where they have a flat and have been living there for past 35 years.
When we approached the Belgaum Tahsildar for the legal heir certificate (FIL and three children) ,the application was rejected on the grounds that death happened in Mumbai and we did not have a ration card or an election card from Karnataka.
Before that when we tried getting the certificate in Mumbai ,it was also rejected on the grounds that the property is in karnataka.
Now we are in a dilemma .Can someone please guide us through this problem?
