Documents with aunt

I believe that aunt has original of sale deed belonging to my family. My father who is now no more made a note in his diary that the document is not traceable. There are very high chances that my aunt obtained them and has retained it. A few years ago, i published a newspaper notice that these documents are missing and obtained certified copies of the same.

I want to seriously talk to my aunt and ask her to return them to me. She talks in a very evasive way. Once she says she doesn't remember taking them, another time she says she has returned them to me. What stand can I take? What legal recourse do I have?

If you have already the certified copies of sale deed that is as good as original sale deed. Since the sale deed was in your father’s name the property should be devolved upon the Legal heirs and update the revenue documents.

Now if you apprehend that your aunt may not misuse the documents better is to lodge an FIR in the police station and keep the copy of FIR, and police will record the statement of your aunt for tell them you doubt the documents are with your aunt.
