Special marriage act

Hi,

I am a Sub-Registrar-cum-Marriage Officer in Odisha.I would like to know how we calculate the three calendar months for registration of marriages under section 5 of Special marriage Act. Is it 90 days or what ?

It is 90 days only and not  three months.

As per the Second Schedule of the SMA, three calendar months means, say from 5th August to 5th October that will be three calendar months..

Thank you all for your kind suggestions. I posted this question because some applicants appeared before me for registration of marriage u/s 5 on the 91st day of their application. Thus this issue of three calendar months /90days arose.

To clear your mind on 91st day, as given in my first above responds, if 5th October happens to be Sunday or public holiday; and the party approach you on 6th October,there is nothing illegal for you to act on 6th October as it will be saved by the Indian General Clauses Act.
