The national register of citizens nrc is a register containing names of all genuine Indian citizens in this name of every citizen of India is recorded creation of nrc is compulsory as per citizenship act 1955 the local officials would decide whether a person's name will be added in nrc or not.
Who all are citizens of India:
(As per citizenship Act 1955) every person born in india
1. On or after 26 day of January of 1950 but before 1st July of 1987.
2.on or after 1st July of 1987 but before commencement of citizenship Amendment Act 2003 and either of whose parents is a citizen of India at time of his birth.
3. On or after the commencement of citizenship Amendment Act 2003 where
A) both of his parents are citizens or
B) one of whose parents is a citizen and other is not illegal migrants at the time of his birth.
Ways to acquire Indian citizenship:
1. Citizen by birth
2. Citizen by incorporation
3. Citizen by descent
4. Citizen by registration
5. Citizen by naturalization
At present only Assam has such register because Assam has since years faced the problem of illegal immigration from neighbouring countries so nrc for Assam was created in 1951 on the data of 1951 census.
