Divorce case

I have filed a divorce case in my hometown. My lawyer advised it is not necessary for me to be present since I had a demanding job. While he said my wife didn't come to court on the first day. In the online status it shows Petitioner(me) absent. Respondent Present. Adv.Mr.K.Jegan filed vakalath for Respondent. For counter and appeared of Respondent call on 04.04.24. Is it wrong to not appear in the first and the next? Lawyer said he will take care of all. No need for me to be present. Is it ok? I need your kind guidance. My wife has filed two cases against me in her hometown 8 hours away. One to restore conjugal rights and the other for monthly compensation while she dumped my special child son with me.

Your wife has full rights to file whatever case against you but that should be maintainable.

You can challenge them properly on merits.

If you have filed the divorce case in the family court then you have to appear before the court on each and every hearing.

However on the first date it is pertinent that you appear before court because the court will send you both for mediation. It is a mandtory requirement
