Employer cannot force an employee to work on holidays. And if any employee works on holiday Employer will give twice the wages to employees who work on holidays or normal wages with a substituted holiday.
Failure to comply with the provisions may attract imprisonment upto 3 months or fine upto Rs.500/- or both.

For more details you can refer to National & Festival holiday Act1959.

Hey Hi,
I tried to locate this Act at many of the places but found it out no where. Even on govt. sites there is only mention of this Act but no further details have been provided. It would be great if you could upload this Act or give reference to a link where this Act is detailed.
Regards

Yes, i also did not locate this act. Neither the central act nor the state (Maharashtra) act.
Surya prabha can you upload this act for us?
I have also heard that the employees are entitled to three times wages. Is it true ? Could you give reference to this?
