1. You can deny maintenance only if you can show to Court;
- She is educated and earning an income.
- She has sufficient income to maintain herself.
- You didnot neglect her.
- It was she who deserted you.
- You donot have sufficient means to maintain her.
- She is living in adultery.

You have to establish before the court that she voluntarily abandoned her matrimonial home without any valid reason or for the reason that she developed illicit relationship with some body etc., also, you may express that you are even now ready to take her back admonishing her past deeds but instead of coming back, she wants your money alone for continuing her merry life, this will make some impact on her maintenance application besides other facts put forth to disallow her application.

So be near to truth as far as possible while making ur defence
