KANPUR: A group of lawyers, on Wednesday, manhandled an accused and his counsel on court premises when they were seeking bail in a criminal case.

Accused
Ateeq Ahmad and his counsel had gone to the court of metropolitan magistrate. According to court record, Ateeq was made accused on complaint of lawyer Mahtab Alam. The lawyer had charged him under Section 323/504 of IPC. When Alam came to know that Ateeq was in the court to seek bail. He and several other lawyers reached there and manhandled him and his counsel. Several judicial officers and police reached there to control the situation.

Appeal:
Kanpur Bar Association has urged the lawyers to join `India Against Corruption' and ensure participation in the movement. Bar association general secretary Anoop Kumar Dwivedi asked the lawyers to express support to Jan Lokpal Bill and switch off the lights in their houses at 8 pm on May 1, light candles and recite the national anthem. Kanpur Bar Association and Lawyers Association would organise the candle lighting programme at Shatabdi gate of Kanpur court at that time.

Very shameful indeed!

When those who claim the responsibility of law in their hands do such shameful things, where would a common man go for justice?
