Republic Day, Independence Day and Birthday of Gandhi are national holidays, which every entity has to follow (MNC included).
Other holidays are decided by respective governments and companies mostly dependent upon local conditions and importance of festivals. For instance, holidays observed by Central Government and State Governments vary though certain holidays are observed everywhere e.g. Diwali, Dussehra, Id, Muharram, Buddha Jayanti, Nanak Jayanti.
On Ram Navmi, banks were closed, Maharashtra Government Offices were closed, Stock Exchanges were closed but Central Government offices in Maharashtra were working. Local festivals like Baisakhi, Durga Pooja, Bihu, Onam, Ugadi, Pongal, Gudi Padwa are observed as holidays in respective states. Not only this, in our zeal, formation day of States e.g. Maharashtra and Gujarat Day on 1st May are observed as holidays.
India is a wonderful country when it comes to holidays. As far as government servants are concerned, he gets 30 days earned leave, 10 days casual leave, 15 days medical leave, 2 days restricted holidays, now maternity leave both for male and female, apart from 52 Sundays and 52 Saturdays.
