Legal procedure

It is well understood that when one hires a Advocate to pursue a court case .a vakalatnama has to be signed in the advocates favour.
Query ....does this same apply for a Lawyer just to send or answer to a Legal notice?

In Baru Singh vs. Babu Ram Sharma, 1997 All L J 842, it was held by the court that a signed Vakalatnama is required to be obtained by a lawyer from his client when it is to be filed in Law Court or Tribunal to plead on behalf of his client although no Vakalatnama is needed for performing other legal work like giving their opinion, sending or answering to legal notices, drafting a petition or other documents. The lawyer is not under any legal duty to obtain a signed Vakalatnama from his client for performing any legal work.
