Letter from Domestic Violence Act, What to do?

I'm in Bangalore, Wife's native place is chennai.
One month back, There was a big quarrel between me and my wife, I slap her.
my wife runaway along with my kid from my home in the midnight.

Afterthat,
I got letter from Protection Officer, Domestic Violence Act, Chennai.
In that letter they told me to come and explain on particular date regarding that violence against my wife.
If I will not go to chennai what will happen.
Can I send my brother instead of me.

Because I can't able to on that particular date, because in my office there is tight schedule is there,
I told my brother, Just go to that place, request for another date...!

What is the next step for this issue..., Will they arrest me...?
Is it correct, Please let me know..!

Nothing will happen if you didn't appear on the date fixed by the protection office.  He only file a report before the court.  This much he can do.  It is just like a conciliation proceediings.
