Loss of shipment via courier

Hi,

I ordered a phone from a US website which was then shipped by an Indian courier company from US to India. However, the courier company admits that the shipment has now been lost at their local hub. This after the fact that they repeatedly fed me false information for almost two weeks that they still had the product and would be shipping it soon. The device itself costs 400USD at time of purchase and now has increased in value to 500+USD.

The item's value was declared and insured and I have proof against the same. However, the courier company has under its insurance claim that the maximum amount insurable is upto 200USD maximum. At this point is there any thing I can do to recover my shipment or the cost of the device itself.

Was it clearly mentioned in the terms and conditions?? and if it was, you agreed to it, didn't you?

The maximum compensation should be $200, you may dispute it but i think it is a business model...
