Non Payment of Premium

Many banks undertake Term insurance coverage of their SB and Current account holders through debit of annual premium on the basis of Consent Cum Authorisation Lettter.  Thereby life of the account holder gets automatically covered by the Insurance Scheme.  In one case, a bank failed to recover the premium on due date through sufficient balance was available and the account holder subsequently passed away.  Since the premium is not remitted to LIC, the Claim papers submitted by the nominee of the insurer is kept pending for more than 2 years without settling the Insured amount of Rs.1.00 Lakh.  Though several representations were made Bank is yet to settle the claim.  What is the legal course of action apart from Banking Ombudsman.

If the account Holder passed away befor the date of premium due ?.... if so you can still claim the amount without bank letter by attaching the death cerfificate with the LIC. Consult the concern LIC Office Zobnal Manager he will help you. nowadays the LIC Is working good

In this case, it is a term insurance where a Master Policy on behalf of customers are held with the Bank. Hence, LIC claims are to be routed only through the Banker who has to submit an undertaking t the effect that premium has been paid upto date.  It is embarassing for me to take cases against my own employer and the onus rests on the Bank to settle the bank without inviting any litigation.

File a detailed complaint against the bank with ombudsman and also with RBI.
