v.lakshminarayanan (prop)     22 February 2010

dear members

i think the answer is no.

to come under the ambit of the RTI act, the body will have to be constituted under the authority of the government or must be receiving govt. aid etc.

a strictly private body whose affairs govt cannot regulate under any law, will not, in my opinion, come under RTI act.

in case of private banks like standard chartered, citibank etc. they may not come within the act as they are not public institutions run with public money.

if the information you seek may be accessed by any public authority like RBI, dept.of banking of the central govt. etc. that authority can get the information for you from the private bank.
