Reduction of no of members in housing co-ops

Is there any provision of decresing number of members in a Housing Co-Operative Society ? We have a Housing Co-operative Society in West Bengal . There are 12 members of whom 4 want to quit . The other members do not want to include outsiders . So , is there any such provision that allows reduction of number of members ?

The minimum number of members to constitute a co peratice society is 10 and leeser than that would not amount to co-opertaive society under Co-operative Societies Act, 1912.

Conditions of registrationl;

1.No society, other than a society of which a member is a registered society, shall be registered under this Act which does not consist of at least ten persons above the age of eighteen years and, where the object of the society is the creation of funds to be lent to its members, unless such persons

(a)  reside in the same town or village or in the same group of villages; or

(b) save where the Registrar otherwise directs, are members of the same tribe, class, caste or occupation.

You need to check your By Laws and amend them accordingly and submit the ammended By-Laws with the application form in Ragistar office. The registrar office can guiede you in this matter ;

With how many Executive members is the byelaws registered?  For any change in EC, an amendment to that affect shall be filed and only after approval from Registrar, you can change the number.
