Sole proprietorship registration

Can anyone guide me whether we need to register a sole propreitorship firm ?

Also where and how it can be registered? What is the Law?

Dear Arpana,

There is no compulsion to do registration. However, you can register for VAT / Service Tax / Shop and Establishment Act / IEC etc., which ever applicable to your business.

If you are using a brand name, it is suggested to apply for a trademark.

Hi Aparna,

As rightly advised by Mr.Nagaraja, you do not need to go for formal registration but you need to have a Trade Licence at least. in case of sole propriotorship firm. I would suggest you can look in to the option of having an LLP Firm which is much better and you can get all the help through Net for its registration.

Once you have decided you may proceed for a proper LOGO or Mark for your company  for TM Registration.

Regards
