This relationship is hit by the mischief of Sapinda. Since the girl is tracing descent through her mother – and the common ancestor i.e great grandmother is within sapindas to the girl (though not the boy) – their marriage is not possible unless a custom specifically allows the same.

Remedy:-
It is not possible under Hindu Marriage Act + Special Marriage Act. But it is possible to marry by converting to Christianity.

Thanks a lot  for the replies and I passed the painful message to my friend .

But out of curiosity  ,I did little research to understand sapinda. Then I realised that there is already one marriage in above family which is not following sapinda rule..i.e marriage between boy's mother's sister and her husband ,but this kind of marriage to maternal unclue is very  common in south india .Are all of them illegitmate?

What are the implications of marrying against  Hindu Marriage Act  in lay man terms ?

Thanks in advance
