The ESI Corporation has decided to provide amnesty benefit to the owners of various industrial units against whom various cases were pending in courts of Karnataka, ESI Deputy Director Renuka Prasad said.

Addressing a press conference, he said this decision was taken under ESI Act of 1948 under a new scheme called Amnesty-2010 at a meeting held at Delhi recently.

He said in all 7,58,485 cases were pending in various courts against the owners of various industrial units coming under ESI scheme.

Many owners did not pay their contributions meant for health benefits of the workers and also had overdrawn the benefits.

He said if these owners paid the over drawn benefits as one time settlement with interest, all the cases would be settled and workers of these benefits could avail the benefits.

As the present scheme did not recover from the owners any other compensation than the availed amount with interest, such cases would be settled outside courts, he added.
