12 Cops Charged With Murder

GREATER NOIDA: The criminal investigation department (CID) has filed a report of abduction, murder and rioting against a former Dankor police station chief, two sub-inspectors and 9 constables. The report filed says the then SHO, OP Chowdhary, sub-inspector Netrapal, sub-inspector Udaipal and the 9 other policemen, had abducted one Bhatkoo of Muzaffarnagar, on December 31, 2006, and then shot him dead in a stage managed encounter. Bhatkoo was allegedly abducted from Hapur, by the policemen. The state police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 50, 000 for information leading to Bhatkoo’s arrest. The report was filed late Sunday evening, at the Dankor police station, by Inspector KK Sharma of the CID. Inspite of the CID having completed a detailed investigation, however, the district police have not taken any action in the matter, with a senior officer saying, “The report will be investigated before any action is taken against the policemen.” A police officer did not reply when asked if the CID, a specialized wing of the state police had not itself carried out a comprehensive investigation.
