43 CHILD WORKERS RESCUED : SECUNDERABAD (AP) 31 Dec 2008, 0410 hrs IST, TNN HYDERABAD: Forty-three child workers, including girls, were rescued during a joint operation by the labour department and National Child Labour Project (NCLP) in Secunderabad on Tuesday. The 43 children were employed at various jewellery shops in Chikoti Complex, General Bazaar in Secunderabad. Deputy commissioner of labour B Ajay said that the raid was conducted based on information provided by NGOs that child workers were working at the complex. Vishwa Karma Yuvajanam Sangham helped the labour department in conducting the raid. The department found 43 children Bengali-speaking children were employed with various jewellery shops at the complex. "The children were identified and handed over to the Mahankali police station. Notices were issued to the employers by the NCLP. After this, they were handed over to the Langar Houz transit home for counselling," Ajay said.
