There is no need to amend the Electricity Act, 2003 or the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 in view of India’s commitment in the recently held Paris Climate Summit. This was stated by Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy and Mines in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
The Minister further stated that however, prior to Paris Climate Summit, an exercise had already been initiated to amend the Electricity Act, 2003, which, inter-alia, includes provisions for promotion of renewable energy with the objectives to promote energy security, the Minister added.
