• A government judge in Florida on Tuesday excused Apple Inc's copyright encroachment claims against a Florida start-up whose product helps security specialists discover weaknesses in Apple items including the iPhone.
• US District Judge Rodney Smith decided for Corellium LLC, saying its product imitating the iOS working framework that sudden spikes in demand for the iPhone and iPad added up to "reasonable use" since it was "extraordinary" and assisted designers with discovering security imperfections.
• The bench said Corellium "adds something new to iOS" by letting users realize and pause running processes, take live snapshots, and conduct other operations.
• U.S. District Judge Rodney Smith ruled in favour of Corellium LLC, saying it's software emulating the iOS operating system that runs on the iPhone and iPad amounted to "fair use" because it was "transformative" and assisted developers to find security flaws.
• The judge also rejected Apple’s argument that the Delray Beach start-up acted in bad faith by selling its product indiscriminately, including potentially to hackers, and by not requiring users to report bugs to Apple.
