Supreme Court advocate Ajay Agrawal filed an application in the Apex Court seeking a direction to the CBI to recover the laptop of Abdul Karim Telgi, the kingpin of the Rs 50,000 crore fake stamp scandal, to reveal the names of top bureaucrats and politicians involved in the scam.
Telgi had reportedly stored the names of top politicians including present Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan who was state Revenue Minister at that time, as the beneficiaries of the scam, in his laptop.
The laptop was recovered from Sanna Telgi, daughter of Abdul Karim Telgi, on July 10, 2003.
The Supreme Court had directed CBI on November 17, 2003 to investigate all 48 important cases which were selected by the agency and had inter-state ramifications.
According to Mr Agrawal, the laptop contains a lot of incriminating evidence and is lying in CFSL Laboratory, Hyderabad since 2004.
Mr Anil Gote, former MLA, was shown the printout taken from this laptop containing the name of Mr Chavan as recipient of Rs 10 lakh from Telgi.
The petitioner has also prayed to the Apex Court to direct the CBI to file up-to-date status report. He has also urged the court to periodically monitor the progress of the investigation being done by the agency on the basis of contents of the laptop.
Mr Agrawal requested the court to direct CBI to investigate the entire contents of the laptop under the supervision of a team of independent cyber experts, which may be constituted by the Apex Court.
