Mumbai: The tussle over control of the multi-crore Lilavavti Hospital in Bandra is set to intensify after the Bombay high court last week refused to intervene and decided not to stay proceedings against Charu Mehta, a trustee of Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical (LKMM) trust, pending with the Joint Charity Commissioner’s (JCC) office.

Charu is the wife of Kishore Mehta, who is locked in a fierce legal battle with his brother Vijay since 2006 over the management of the hospital founded by their father Kirtilal Mehta in 1978. The other trustees, including Chetan Mehta, had sought the removal of Charu Mehta from trusteeship. The matter is being heard by the JCC and is at the stage of framing charges.

Justice DB Bhosale, while dismissing the petition, observed: “The parties are litigating at every possible opportunity and are not allowing the JCC to proceed with the matter.” Justice Bhosale has also directed Charu Mehta to approach the high court in case she is not satisfied with the JCC’s order.
