CACUTTA HC REJECTS ASHOK TODI'S BAIL PLEA plea 12/23/2008 A two-judge bench of Calcutta High Court rejected industrialist Pradip Todi’s bail plea in the Rizwanur Rahman death case. Pradip Todi, brother of Ashok Todi, applied for bail before the High Court after city courts rejected his bail plea. The bench comprising Justices D P Sengupta and P K Deb, rejected the bail plea on the ground of the CBI’s submission before the bench alleging that he has handed over more than a million rupees to Pappu to break the marriage of Rizwanur Rahman and Ashok Todi’s daughter Priyanka. Meanwhile, all seven accused in the Rizwanur Rahman death case appeared before the city civil and sessions court where trial of the case was opened. The Todi brothers, along with Pappu, presently in judicial custody, were brought to the court by police from a city jail while the three police officials and Anil Saraogi, a family friend of the Todi's, came on their own before the bench. The court has fixed the next date of hearing of the case on January 15. Ashok Todi, prime accused in the case, has made a plea before the court to shift him to a city hospital on the ground of his failing health. According to prosecution, Mr Todi named a hospital having branches in the southern part of the city and Salt Lake for treatment. The court is likely to decide on his plea on January 6 2009. UNI
