CJ of Allahabad HC Chandramauli Prasad elevated to SC

Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Chandramauli Kumar Prasad has been elevated to the Supreme Court.

Warrant of appointment of Justice Prasad has been signed by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil.

Justice Prasad was to take oath as Supreme Court Judge along with Justice Swatanter Kumar last month but his file was returned by the Union Law Ministry to the Supreme Court Collegium for verification of some allegations against the Judge.

The Collegium, however, found the allegations baseless and returned the file to the government recommending his appointment as a Supreme Court Judge.

Justice Prasad is likely to take oath as Supreme Court Judge next week, most probably on February 8.

Justice Amatava Lala has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.
