Commission's report on Beltola violence submitted

The Justice (Retd) R K Manisana Singh Commission, probing the large-scale violence during an Adivasi rally at Beltola in Guwahati on 24th Nov, has submitted its report to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. The commission submitted its 70-page report to the chief minister on Monday, official sources said on Tuesday. The one-man commission was set up to ascertain the circumstances leading to the violence and lapses if any during a rally by All Adivasi Students Association on 24th November demanding ST status for the community. One person was killed and many others were injured in the violence and an Adivasi girl was allegedly stripped by a few youths. The authorities, Adivasi student leaders and the Adivasi girl had deposed before the commission which was asked to fix responsibility and to prevent such incidents. The commission was asked to submit its report before 28th February. The report is expected to be placed in the assembly in the ensuing assembly session, sources said.
