Defence Scam: HC defers bail plea of Nandas, others New Delhi, Apr 23 The Delhi High Court today deferred the bail applications of arms dealer Suresh Nanda, his son Sanjeev Nanda and others, who are in judicial custody in a case relating to manipulating evidence on alleged kickbacks received in defence deals. The court had earlier issued notice to the CBI and asked it to file its reply by today. Appearing on behalf of the Nandas, Senior Counsel Arun Jaitley said all offences allegedly committed by the accused were bailable under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and therefore they are entitled to bail. Earlier on April 5, the Sessions Court had rejected the bail plea of the Nandas and others. Additional Sessions Judge I K Kochar had rejected the bail plea of the three on the grounds that the investigations are at an initial stage and releasing reports at this point of time may hamper the probe. The Nandas, who are an accused in the BMW hit-and-run case, Chartered Accountant Bipin Shah and Deputy Director of Income Tax Ashutosh Verma were arrested by the CBI in Mumbai on March 8, and they are in custody thereafter. The court will hear the bail applications of the accused next week.
