DELHI HIGH COURT EXEMPTS N. D. TIWARI FROM APPEARANCE IN PATERNITY SUIT 12/15/2008 The Delhi High Court exempted veteran Congressman and Andhra Pradesh Governor N D Tiwari from personal appearance before the court tomorrow. Hearing a paternity suit filed by one Rohit Shekhar, a division bench headed by Justice A K Sikri and Manmohan Singh granted interim relief to the Andhra Governor, challenging the single-judge order which had directed him to appear before the court. Rohit Shekhar in his suit has pleaded before the court that he should be declared the biological son of the Congress leader. The bench, however, refused to set aside the order, saying that the matter pertaining to his personal appearance must be argued before the single judge bench only. Since the matter will be heard on Tuesday, Mr Tiwari would not be having sufficient time to file fresh application, so he is exempted from personal appearance for tomorrow only, the court said. Mr Tiwari has categorically denied the allegations, terming it scandalous. He called the suit nothing more than a cheap publicity at his cost. UNI
