Fiza Moves Punjab State Human Rights Commission Dated:19 Feb 2009, 1511 hrs IST, Source: PTI CHANDIGARH: Text: A day before she is supposed to appear before Mohali Police, Fiza, alias Anuradha Bali, today moved the PSHRC here seeking justice against her "runaway" husband Chand Mohammed, alias Chander Mohan. The Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) accepted her plea and fixed February 25 for hearing. In her petition, Fiza also named Mohali SSP J S Aulakh as "co-accused" alleging that despite lodging a criminal complaint against her husband with the SSP, the police had not yet registered any FIR or Daily Diary Report (DDR) as they were working under pressure from her husband's politically powerful family. In December 2008, the already married 43-year old Mohan, then Haryana Deputy Chief Minister and son of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, created a stir when he and 37-year old Bali, a former Assistant Advocate General, converted to Islam and announced their wedlock. However, the marriage soon turned sour when Chand left Fiza's residence on January 28, 2009 following which she tried to commit suicide. She later denied that she had tried to kill herself. In her police complaint filed last Monday, Fiza alleged that her husband had committed fraud as he had changed religion only to have physical relationship with her and accused him of "rape, hurting religious sentiments, cheating, defamation and criminal intimidation."
