Habeas Corpus

The High court of Madras closed a Habeas Corpus petition alleging that several persons belonging to a family in Erode district had been abducted by henchmen of the former handlooms minister N.K.K.P.Raja. Earlier, the police had told to the court that Raja was not involved in the offence, even though the abduction was a fact. A division bench of the Honorable High Court, comprising Justice Prabha Sridevan and Justice V Periya Karuppaiah, based on the investigation status report filed by the Police, treated the matter as closed after the detenues were released from custody The Inspector of Police, Perundurai police station, in his status report on the probe said three persons have so far been arrested and a few more suspects identified. Vehicles involved in the offence had been seized.
